It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a .......flat tire. :)

Yes, I had my first flat tire this morning. I mean I've had leaking tires before that I've taken my car to the gas station and they put some shit in the tire to plug the hole, but never a super flat tire like today. Pulled her out of the garage and noticed she was driving a little weird. Got out and looked at the tires. One was so flat that it looked like one of those cars you see sitting on the side of the road for 6 months in Philly. Sadly I have never changed a tire in my life so I had to call my hubby - who had already gone to work, made him come back and he gave me a lesson on changing tires 101. It took quite a while to get the tire off, then we realized that the spare doughnut was flat as well. He followed me to the gas station to get air and give them my flat to be fixed. The whole ordeal took about an hour and a half so I got to work at 10am today. But I have to say, what a beautiful day to have my first flat. It's warm and sunny out and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Solar Eclipse [29 Mar 2006|01:15pm]
[ mood | moved ]

Wow! I just took my lunch with the NBC video of the Full Solar Eclipse. I think that was one of the most powerful things I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure that I've seen an eclipse (partial for sure) but I don't remember ever seeing a full solar eclipse.

I vow from now until I die to travel to see every full solar eclipse that happens.

ebay cheaters [27 Mar 2006|12:08pm]
[ mood | angry ]

I really hate ebay cheaters, you know the ones I'm talking about. The ones that outbid you with sneaky auction bidding software when there are 8 seconds left, leaving you with no time to rebid. I fucking hate that shit. And, it's always some random person who hasn't put in any bids yet. Bastards! I'm trying to save some money on this house project and I finally found something that would be perfect but now it's gone. Meh! :(

I know I'm a little late on this one... [15 Feb 2006|03:20pm]
Last night I did my grocery shopping. We don't celebrate Valentines day by the way, we feel it's one of those "manufactured-by-the-greeting-card-companies" holidays that makes single people feel bad. Anyway, remembering slightly that it actually was Valentines yesterday I kept noticing as I was walking through the produce section, which is also where they keep the flowers, there were a LOT of men picking out bouquets and then rushing back to the register. And keep in mind this was at like 7pm. Could you be any later guys? Okay so maybe this was only amusing to me. I needed something to amuse me while I'm grocery shopping. I hate grocery shopping. In fact if I did celebrate Valentines, I think I would want my present to be that my man went to the store for me and got everything just right. But like I said, I don't celebrate Valentines! :)

Adobe photoshop 7 vs. CS2 [09 Feb 2006|12:06pm]
Anyone have any experience with Photoshop CS2? I've seen nothing but bad reviews on Amazon. I've used V.7 at school about a year and a half ago. Even my teacher said she didn't like CS. I'd like to buy one or the other to start doing more digital photography at home. Any comments will be welcome.

Derby [07 Feb 2006|01:03pm]
I'm going to a roller derby bout on Sunday. I want to make a sign for my friend to cheer her on but I'm not sure what to put on it. Any suggestions? Her derby name is Rosie Bloodbath. Thanks!

Anyone have any advice of meals that are easy to prepare and very nutritious/healthy? I understand that this is probably an oxymoron but I thought I'd ask.

My car [09 Jan 2006|09:35am]
[ mood | grumpy ]

I just spent $620 getting my exhaust fixed (again) this weekend. This sucks because I just looked up the value of my car on kelly blue book and for private party sale it is worth about $4000. For trade in it is even less at $2900. This is VERY sad. I've probably spend close to $3000 fixing things on the car since I bought it in 2001. But I paid like $18,000 for the car. Why is buying a car such a rip off?

Yesterday at our house/money pit/project Steve had his cousin and another guy come over to do some work. (His cousin is a contractor) At $400 a day for the pair I was a little concerned. They were supposed to work for 2 days and I don't make that much in a week. Anyway, last night we went over to work for a couple hours and I got to see what they had done. I am so excited! They ripped the whole kitchen out. The cabinets, drop ceiling, and appliances are all outside now. We found that the kitchen part of the house was an addition, probably in the 20's or 30's when Trumbauer did the remodel of the place. There was drywall that the guys opened up in the kitchen wall that we want to tear down and inside is the old outside of the house. Nice wood planks. Unpainted I think, or maybe brown. They took out the ceiling light so we couldn't see too well. But we can use these planks to fill in the holes on the outside of the house where someone cut a hole to put a window airconditioner in the wall. Nice!
Another great thing that they did was rip up the hardwood in the 3rd floor bathroom that needs to be fixed. Underneath was the original hardwood floor. I've been dying for some 1800's-something in the house. It had seemed like we'd never find it. Everything was redone in the original remodel. So it was exciting to see the old coming out. Also hidden by the drop ceiling in the kitchen was the 2nd owners maid service box (whatever you want to call it) It's got either lights or clock arms or something in it and the room names (Den, living room, Mr. Develon's room, etc.) I can't wait to see that in the light. There are little buzzers next to the light switches in all of the rooms but only one works and not for this box - or maybe they do and they just light up. We'll find out! Yeah!

So now I need to take "Stage 2" pictures for the website. As soon as I figure out the camera batter/charger issue with my camera. :)

Clean sheets [04 Jan 2006|03:18pm]
[ mood | confused ]

The other night I put clean sheets on the bed. (By the way, I change my sheets once a week, before any of you smart asses make a comment about it!) This set in particular is bright Chinese red. Every time I put this sheet set on my bed, I cannot sleep well. Is it possible the bright (and slightly angry) color is affecting me, even in the dark? The only other option is that all of my other sheet sets are Wamsutta Jersey knit and that this set, Jersey Knit as well, is from Target. Lower quality obviously but they don't seem any different to the touch when I'm folding them. They have rarely been used so I guess next week, when they're clean again, I will give them to good will.

Speaking of bedding, I really want this duvet in the green shown.

Tree's....to cut or not to cut [18 Nov 2005|10:34am]
I'm having a dilema right now deciding if I should chop the tree's that are within a foot of the house. They are large, probably 100 year old trees so I feel bad cutting them down BUT they are 1 foot from the house making it impossible to paint, dangerous in a storm, and they block the house so you can't see it's beautiful victorian features. There are still plenty of old tall tree's in the yard so I guess it should be okay. I'll also be able to do some serious landscaping near the house if the tree's are removed.

ARgh! Why did they have to plant them so close!!?!?!

I'm going to take some decent photo's tomorrow so I can actually post them and you'll see what I'm talking about. Maybe then it will make more sense.

I'm back... and married! :) [15 Nov 2005|01:06pm]
Hey everyone. I am back, actually since the 2nd of November but I haven't had time to do anything but plan for my reception which thankfully took place on Saturday. The wedding was wonderful and the trip was great too. Pictures will be up soon. Back to the grind, working late every day this week to make up for time I took off last week to finish up for the party, and I guess for the day I took of for settlement on our house. I don't mind staying late. I actually prefer it because all the people that bug me all day long have gone home so it's nice and quiet during that last hour of the day. I actually get work done! :)

Well, I don't have enough time to go into the trip now so I guess I won't say anything. Just glad to be home safe and sound.

PS, What happened to LJ while I was gone. It looks different when I log in. Kinda freaked me out.

Raisins [30 Sep 2005|11:29am]
Has anyone here ever been eating raisins and then all of the sudden you get one that tastes like it's been sprayed with RAID?? That has happened to me twice now. Just now actually was the 2nd time. I swished with water for about 5 minutes. It's still there though. I'd really like to know what that is. YUK!!

Muah hah hah!!!

Between yesterday and this morning I have..

Booked all the other rooms I needed in Puerto Rico.

Cut the long sleeves off of Steve's linen shirt and hemed them to short sleeves for the wedding.

Got Steve's aunt (in PR) to reserve our cargo ferry times since no one speaks english there!!

I'm feeling suddenly calmer. This is nice. :)

What a pain in the ass it is to get someone to answer the phone in Puerto Rico. I guess the pace is a bit different down there. I am trying to reserve a spot for my rental car on the cargo ferry but no one answers. The worst part is that I'm calling from work so I'll have to pay the long distance fee. At home it would have been free with vonage. :(

I hope someone answers soon....
